For many football fans across the world, Egypt’s identity at the FIFA World Cup is deeply tied to Mohamed Salah. Just like Guillermo Ochoa with Mexico, Salah has become the face of Egyptian football — the superstar whose presence alone raises expectations every four years.

However, Egypt is more than just Salah.

The Pharaohs remain one of Africa’s most successful football nations, with a rich history that stretches beyond the continent. Although they have struggled to make consistent appearances at the World Cup in recent decades, Egypt’s return to the global stage represents another opportunity to prove themselves among football’s elite.

The North Africans will head into the 2026 FIFA World Cup hoping to finally break past the group stage for the first time in their history. Having already cemented his legacy as an African footballer footballer abroad, Salah will be desperate to lead Egypt beyond the group stage for the first time ever. The 33-year-old carries the hopes of millions of Egyptians and could be heading into his final World Cup tournament.

His leadership, experience and eye for goal make him Egypt’s most important player heading into the competition.

Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” (Trabzonspor, 31)

Trezeguet remains a vital part of Egypt’s attack with his pace, movement and direct style of play. The Al-Ahly winger has consistently delivered important performances for the national team over the years and brings valuable tournament experience.

The former Aston Villa player is known for stepping up in crucial moments and will likely play a key supporting role alongside Salah in Egypt’s frontline.

Omar Marmoush (Manchester City, 27)

Omar Marmoush has developed into one of Egypt’s brightest attacking players in Europe. After impressive spells in Germany, the forward earned a move to Manchester City and has continued to grow in confidence.

Quick, skillful and versatile across the attack, Marmoush could become one of the breakout African stars of the tournament if given the opportunity to shine.
