Edo DG, APC Leaders Commend Voting Process, as Omosede wins Primary Election

The Returning Officer for Ovia Federal Constituency, Barr. McDonald Obasuke, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, declared Hon. Gabriella Omosede Igbinedion winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Primary Election.

Omosede, the incumbent legislator representing Ovia Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives was declared winner at the Iguobazuwa Toqn Hall collation Centre haven polled a total of number of 11,568 votes to win her opponent, Hon. Sunday Eghe Osazewinde with a total margin of 8,446 votes, in an election which was peaceful and orderly.

Osazewinde scored a total voice vote count of 3,099. A total vote count of 8,693 was recorded at Ovia South West while Ovia North East produced 5,974 votes.

Speaking shortly after the voting process, the Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa and members of the APC from the national and state levels commended the voting process, highlighting that the process went without incidence.

The Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa thereafter expressed thanks to, “The people of Ovia Federal Constituency who came out to vote for the candidate of their choice.”

He stated that haven voted, “Today, Omosede Gabriella Igbinedion has emerged as the flagbearer of our great party, in Ovia Federal Constituency House of Representatives ‘Primary Election’ and we are all indeed very happy for we know she is going to make Ovia people proud.”

Hon. Mohammed kabiru Ajanah, Chairman, National Assembly Election Committee, who spoke on the electoral process stated that democracy was nolonger nascent as democracy has come to stay in Nigeria.

He said, “This is a process where there is transparency and unique sense of responsibility; where leaders bring themselves down to the level of the masses and the masses take charge in electing their representatives at the National Assembly.”

Omosede Igbinedion expressed gratitude to the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the people of Ovia Federal Constituency and the party, based on her emergence through a peaceful and very democratic process which she noted, kept with the tenets of democracy. She nonetheless extended an olive branch to her co-contestant, urging him and his followers/supporters to work alongside her to make for a united front in the upcoming national elections.

The primary election was witnessed by APC stakeholders including the State Secretary, Mr. Lawrence Okah; Members of the National election committee, Ovia South West Local Government Party Chairman Mr Emmanuel Ogbomo as well as the Edo State House of Assembly Members representing the area- Hon. Sunday Aghedo and Hon. Andrew Uzamere.
