Eid-el-Kabir: Nigeria can’t survive when only the poor make sacrifices — AHACCI

ABUJA — The Atum Humanitarian Anti-Corruption and Charitable Initiative, AHACCI, has warned that Nigeria’s hardship crisis will persist if sacrifice continues to fall mainly on ordinary citizens while corruption and greed thrive among the country’s elite.

The group said this year’s Eid-el-Kabir comes at a painful time for many Nigerians facing rising food prices, insecurity, economic uncertainty and growing pressure on household survival, stressing that the season should inspire reflection, compassion and responsibility, not just celebration.

The position was contained in an Eid-el-Kabir statement signed by the Executive Chairman of AHACCI, Comrade Ismaila Yusuf Atumeyi.

“Nigeria cannot overcome hardship when sacrifice is demanded only from ordinary citizens while greed and corruption continue to thrive among the powerful,” the organisation stated.

AHACCI said public trust in leadership would remain fragile as long as resources meant to improve the lives of citizens were diverted while millions struggled daily with worsening economic conditions.

“It is also a reminder that society survives when people are willing to make sacrifices for the common good,” Atumenyi added.

The group called on political leaders, public office holders, business owners and other privileged Nigerians to use the period for sober reflection and place the welfare of citizens above personal interest, greed and corruption.

According to AHACCI, the fight against corruption must be driven not only by rhetoric but also by compassion, justice and practical support for vulnerable people across society.

The organisation also urged Nigerians to support widows, orphans, internally displaced persons, persons living with disabilities and struggling families who may find the festive season especially difficult.

“As Muslim faithful mark Eid-el-Kabir, AHACCI prays for peace, unity, healing and renewed hope for the nation,” the statement said
