Ekiti NASS Primary: APC declares Oye/Ikole poll inconclusive over violence

Ado-Ekiti—The All Progressive Congress (APC) has declared the National Assembly primary election held in Ekiti North Federal Constituency I, consisting of Oye and Ikole Local governments, inconclusive over pockets of crisis recorded in some voting areas.

The Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee of the party in Ekiti State, Wasiu Adedoyin stated this on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, while announcing the results of the primary election.

 Adedoyin explained that there were pockets of crisis in some voting areas, adding that the matter would be handled by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC, which would determine whether to constitute another committee to conclude the process or direct the current committee to return.

He added that the committee would not exceed its mandate, especially as the party’s Senate primaries were scheduled for Monday.

Adedoyin urged party members and stakeholders in Oye and Ikole to await further directives from the APC National Working Committee regarding the completion of the primary process in the constituency.

His words, “As we are all aware, we have six federal constituencies in Ekiti. But the issue in Ekiti North One, which comprises Oye and Ikole, is going to be handled by the National Working Committee of the party.

“There were pockets of crisis in some of the votes yesterday and the process was not completed. As a result of that, I will not be announcing any results for Oye and Ikole Federal Constituency.

“There is no window for Oye and Ikole in the timetable given to us.

“It is the National Working Committee that can decide what to do, whether they will send another committee to come and conclude the job or they will send us back.

“Tomorrow is for the Senate. We will not want to overstep our bounds by doing what we are not allowed to do.

“But that is not part of our instruction. So the people of Oye and Ikole should await what the National Working Committee of the party will say”.

Declaring the result, the incumbent lawmaker for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I, Steve Olusola Fatoba defeated his four opponents with 8,943 votes.

In Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II, Oladapo Karounwi scored 6,573 votes to defeat the incumbent, Abiodun Omoleye who scored 2,096 votes.

In Ekiti South Federal Constituency I, Okoro Toyin Zaccheaus scored 9,798 votes to defeat the incumbent, Rufus Adeni Ojuawo, who had 1,842 votes.

In Ekiti South II Federal Constituency II,  the incumbent lawmaker, Richard Bamisile polled 4,379 votes to defeat his seven rivals.

In Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, Ibrahim Olanrewaju also polled 6,856 votes to defeat the incumbent, Kolawole Akinlayo who scored 2,102 votes.
