Embattled ex-AGF, Malami secures ADC governorship ticket in Kebbi

Abubakar Malami, former minister of justice, has emerged as the 2027 governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State.

Mohammed Doka, special assistant on media to Malami, announced this in a statement posted on the former minister’s X page on Sunday.

He said the former attorney-general of the federation thanked party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters for the confidence and support demonstrated ahead of the governorship election in the state.

According to the statement, Aminu Bande was also affirmed as the party’s senatorial candidate for Kebbi Central, while Ibrahim Mera emerged as the candidate for Kebbi North Senatorial District. Garba Danjuma secured the ticket for Kebbi South.

The statement added that Malami remains committed to purposeful leadership, good governance, justice, security, and sustainable development for Kebbi State and the country at large.

“Together, with unity and determination, we shall build a more prosperous future for generations to come,” the statement said.

In November 2025, Malami declared his governorship ambition, citing the need to rescue the state from “hardship and deep insecurity,” which he attributed to the current administration.

The former AGF is currently facing trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja over separate criminal charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Department of State Services.

In January, the court ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties allegedly linked to unlawful activities involving Malami and two of his sons, Abdulaziz Malami and Abiru Rahman Malami.
