Employment not for sale, Bauchi warns against fake job offers

The Bauchi State Government, through the State Civil Service Commission, has warned the public against fake employment offers, stressing that jobs in the state civil service are not for sale.

The warning followed the arrest of one Saleem Alhassan, popularly known as “Jagaban Ningi,” by the Bauchi State Police Command over alleged forgery and related offences.

This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Information Officer in the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Bauchi, Awwal Waziri.

According to Waziri, the advisory became necessary due to the activities of fraudsters circulating counterfeit appointment letters to unsuspecting residents.

“The Office of the Head of Civil Service in Bauchi State has issued a public advisory warning residents against fake appointment letters, following the arrest of one Saleem Alhassan, alias ‘Jagaban Ningi,’ by the Bauchi State Police Command,” the statement read.

He explained that police authorities were investigating the suspect for alleged criminal conspiracy and forgery linked to the production and circulation of fake employment letters. He added that the arrest followed an earlier complaint by the Office, which led to the prosecution of two other suspects in similar cases.

“Police said the suspect is being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy and forgery linked to the production and circulation of counterfeit employment letters. The spokesperson disclosed that fraudsters had been extorting between ₦500,000 and ₦750,000 from unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of securing government jobs.

He reiterated that recruitment into the Bauchi State Civil Service follows established procedures and is communicated only through official channels.

“The Office clarified that all recruitment and appointments into the Bauchi State Civil Service are conducted strictly through due process and communicated only via official channels of the Office of the Head of Civil Service and the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission.

“It stresses that no fee or payment is required at any stage of the process, and that any appointment letter not issued directly by those offices is fake and invalid,” he said.

Waziri urged residents to avoid dealings with individuals or groups demanding money in exchange for employment opportunities and to report such cases to the nearest police station, the State Criminal Investigation Department, or the Office of the Head of Civil Service.

The Office also commended the Bauchi State Police Command under Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu for its swift response and acknowledged the support of other security agencies in safeguarding the integrity of the civil service.

The government advised residents seeking clarification on employment matters to contact the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Bauchi State, for verification of any job-related correspondence.
