Enugu NULGE declares support for Mbah’s 2027 reelection

The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Enugu State chapter has declared full support for Governor Peter Mbah and endorsed his re-election bid ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.
This was announced in Enugu on Wednesday during a programme organised for Mbah at the union’s state secretariat.
Addressing its members, the State President of NULGE, Udoagha Ani, said the union was backing the governor in recognition of what he described as unprecedented welfare reforms for local government workers.
He noted that although past administrations offered varying levels of support, the Mbah administration had introduced the most far-reaching benefits.
Ani listed prompt payment of salaries, approval of the N80,000 minimum wage, and the full integration of local government workers into the state’s scheme of service as landmark achievements.
The immediate past NULGE president, Kenneth Ugwueze, also commended Mbah, saying long-standing welfare demands of workers were implemented with sincerity and urgency under the current administration.
Similarly, the Secretary of the State Local Government Service Commission, Osondu Nnaji, highlighted the governor’s decision to appoint a statutory local government staff as secretary of the commission for the first time, describing it as a historic recognition.
On behalf of the union’s local government branches, the NULGE Chairman of Udi Local Government Area, Emeka Ngwu, assured of stronger mobilisation at the grassroots to sustain the gains recorded by workers.
Also aligning with the trend, NULGE Vice President (South East), Lambert Onuigbo, acknowledged that the support platform had yielded a lot of favour for the local government system in the state and commended the state leadership for sustaining it.
The launch of the support platform was seen as one of the most organised expressions of solidarity for a sitting governor in recent years as the state moves closer to the 2027 election season.
