EPL Final Day: Tottenham must win clash against Everton to avoid relegation

Published

The stage is set for a tense final Premier League fixture as Tottenham Hotspur host Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday evening, with survival and table positioning still on the line for both sides.

Both teams head into the encounter on the back of defeats, with Spurs losing 2-1 to Chelsea, while Everton fell 3-1 at home to Sunderland.

Tottenham’s defeat in midweek has dragged them back into a tense relegation battle, with their Premier League status still not mathematically secure. They currently sit 17th with 38 points after 37 matches, just two points above West Ham United in 18th.

The equation for Spurs is simple: victory guarantees survival. A draw would also likely be enough due to their superior goal difference over West Ham, but defeat could leave them nervously watching results elsewhere.

Everton, meanwhile, arrive with different stakes but still plenty to play for. Currently 12th on 49 points, they could still finish in the top half of the table for the first time in five years, depending on results elsewhere involving Newcastle United and Sunderland.

However, their hopes of European qualification have already ended following their loss to Sunderland, meaning David Moyes’ side are now focused on finishing the season strongly and potentially acting as spoilers in the relegation battle.

A positive result for Everton could add further drama to the survival fight, especially if West Ham United secure a big win against Leeds United.

With everything still to play for, Sunday’s clash promises a dramatic conclusion to the Premier League season for both clubs.
