Gov Adeleke commended over student inclusion policy

as NANS urges S-west governors to follow Osun’s example

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South-West Zone D, has commended the Osun State Government for what it described as a strong commitment to student inclusiveness following the appointment of a student leader into a government youth campaign structure.

In a statement issued by the General Secretary of NANS South-West Zone D, Ojetola Babatunde, the student body praised the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke for appointing the coordinator of NANS South-West Zone D, Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, as Director of Campus Affairs under the Imole Youth Campaign Team.

The campaign structure is said to be powered by the Osun State Ministry of Youth Affairs.

NANS described the appointment as “a progressive step towards strengthening the relationship between government institutions and the student constituency”.

According to the statement, “NANS South-West views this development not merely as an appointment of an individual, but as a recognition of the relevance of students and organised student leadership as important stakeholders in governance, policy conversations, youth development, and societal progress.”

The association maintained that students should not only be seen as future leaders but also as active contributors to governance and policy formulation.

“As the foremost umbrella body representing Nigerian students across the South-West region, we firmly believe that students must not only be regarded as future leaders, but as active contributors whose voices, ideas, and participation remain essential in shaping policies and decisions that directly affect education, youth empowerment, and national development,” the statement added.

While stressing its non-partisan status, NANS said governments across the region should create opportunities for responsible student leaders and youths to contribute meaningfully to governance and public service.

The body noted that youth inclusion had become necessary at a time when many graduates were grappling with unemployment and economic hardship.

“At a period where many young graduates continue to face unemployment, economic hardship, and limited opportunities, deliberate inclusion of competent youths and student representatives in governance processes remains highly commendable and necessary for sustainable growth and inclusive leadership,” the statement read.

NANS further challenged other state governments in the South-West geopolitical zone to emulate the Osun model by creating platforms for students and youths to participate actively in governance and developmental initiatives.

The association also congratulated Adeyemo Josiah Kayode on the appointment, describing him as a vibrant student leader whose years of activism and service to students’ welfare had continued to inspire many across campuses.

The statement reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to promoting “responsible leadership, student inclusiveness, youth empowerment, and societal development” across the region.
