Jigawa APC adopts consensus, returns 18 lawmakers for 2027

The ruling All Progressives Congress has adopted a consensus arrangement to produce candidates for the 30 seats in the Jigawa State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections, with 18 incumbent lawmakers returning and 11 new candidates emerging.

As part of the exercise, the Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Dangyatim, secured the APC ticket for his constituency through affirmation during the party’s state assembly primaries held on Wednesday across the state’s 30 constituencies.

Speaking with journalists shortly after his affirmation at Dangyatim Ward in Miga Local Government Area, the Speaker said the process demonstrated the unity and strength of the APC in Jigawa State.

“We are grateful that our people and the party officials sent from Abuja have affirmed my candidature for the 2027 election,” Dangyatim said.

He added that the consensus arrangement helped to prevent internal rancour and further consolidate the party ahead of the elections.

“The APC in Jigawa remains one family. What happened today shows our commitment to delivering for the people,” he stated.

Also speaking, the APC Publicity Secretary in Jigawa State, Bashir Kundu, said the exercise was peaceful and conducted in line with the directive of the party’s national leadership to adopt consensus where necessary.

According to him, 18 serving lawmakers were affirmed for a second term, while 11 fresh aspirants emerged as candidates after securing the backing of delegates and party stakeholders in their constituencies.

Kundu listed the successful candidates to include Haladu Bako Uza (Auyo), Kabiru Isah Babura (Babura), Hussaini Shareef Kirya (Biriniwa), Sagir Yalwan Damai (Birnin Kudu), Saleh Baba (Buji) and Bala Ibrahim Yakubu (Dutse).

Others are Sani Mukhtar Madaka (Gagarawa), Abdu Ila Muku (Garki), Sani Isya (Gumel), Usman Abdullahi Tura (Guri), Ado Yakubu Zandam (Gwaram), Aminu Zakari Tsubut (Gwiwa), Bala T.O (Hadejia), Ado Mai Unguwa (Jahun), Yaro Muhammad (Kafin Hausa), Sani Saleh Zaburan (Kaugama), Muhammad Inuwa Idris (Kazaure) and Salisu Garba Kubayo (Kiri Kasamma).

The remaining candidates are Yahaya Muhammad Andaza (Kiyawa), Habu Muhammad (Maigatari), Hamza Adamu Babayaro (Malam Madori), Haruna Aliyu (Miga), Hamza Ustaz (Ringim), Lawan Tambari (Roni), Kabiru Maitsamiya (Sule Tankarkar), Dayyabu Shehu Gwalo (Taura), Ado Muhammad Zoto (Yankwashi), Ibrahim Hashim Kanya (Kanya/Babura), Yahaya Zakari Kwarko (Fagam/Gwaram) and Gimba (Bulangu/Kafin Hausa).

Kundu said the primaries were monitored by officials from the APC national headquarters and conducted in accordance with party guidelines.

“The exercise was peaceful across all constituencies. Where there was only one aspirant, affirmation was adopted,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the blend of returning lawmakers and new entrants would strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 elections and urged party members to remain united in ensuring victory for the party at all levels.
