‘Join another party or face sanctions’ – Ajibola Basiru warns Fayemi
Ajibola Basiru, the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti state to stop making comments capable of damaging the image of the ruling party or face disciplinary action.
Basiru issued the warning following Fayemi’s recent criticism of the APC, where he claimed the party had drifted away from the ideals of its founding fathers and was losing internal debate and ideological direction.
Reacting to the remarks, Basiru said Fayemi should leave the APC if he no longer believes in the party, stressing that the ruling party would not tolerate actions considered anti-party activities.
“We urge him that since he so much despises the party and wishes the party an implosion, he should go to where whatever he thinks his best ideas can be ventilated,” Basiru said.
He added that the APC could invoke disciplinary measures against Fayemi if he continued making statements perceived as undermining the party.
Basiru also alleged that Fayemi and some of his loyalists had been fraternising with opposition figures ahead of the Ekiti governorship election.
Fayemi had earlier warned that the growing culture of endorsements and consensus arrangements within the APC could trigger internal crisis in the party ahead of future elections.
