LAWMA to audit operational facilities
The Lagos Waste Management Authority has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive safety audit of its operational facilities across Lagos State, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen workplace safety, improve operational standards, and enhance service delivery.
The Director, Public Affairs, at the LAWMA, Mukaila Sanusi, stated this in a statement on Friday obtained by The PidomNigeria.
According to the statement, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this on Thursday during an inspection tour of the Transfer Loading Station at Simpson, Lagos Island, where he assessed operational processes, environmental standards, and safety conditions.
He stated that the audit would help identify operational and safety gaps, âreinforce compliance measures, and ensure that LAWMA facilities continue to operate in line with global best practicesâ.
âThe safety audit would aim at promoting a safer working environment for sanitation workers, contractors, and other stakeholders operating within LAWMA facilities across the state,â Gbadegesin said.
He noted that employee welfare, operational safety, and environmental sustainability remained central to LAWMAâs mandate.
Gbadegesin added that proactive safety assessments were necessary to minimise operational risks and improve efficiency.
During the inspection, the LAWMA boss also engaged operational staff and facility managers, urging them to maintain strict adherence to established safety protocols and operational guidelines.
The LAWMA boss commended the workforce for their dedication and resilience while reaffirming the authorityâs commitment to continuous operational reforms and infrastructure upgrades to meet the growing sanitation demands of Lagos.
He added that the planned safety audit would form part of broader efforts to reposition LAWMA as a modern, efficient, and environmentally responsible institution focused on public health, workplace safety, and service excellence.
