MACBAN condemns killing of pastoralists in Kogi, demands justice
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has condemned the killing of several pastoralists in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, calling for justice for the victims.
In a statement issued on Monday by the State Secretary of the association, Suleiman Muhammed, the group described the attack as barbaric and unacceptable.
According to the statement, the victims included men, women, and children were allegedly attacked and killed under circumstances that are yet to be fully explained.
The association identified those killed as Isiaka Lawal, Larai Musa, Abdullahi Isiaka, Isah Isiaka, Saleh Isiaka, Samsiya Adamu, Asma’u Siuni, Basullube Musa, and Bello Musa.
It also said three others, Husseini Haruna, Abdullahi Abdullahi, and Sa’ida Haruna, sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
MACBAN expressed deep concern over the incident and urged security agencies to act swiftly.
“The association denounced the attack, urging security agencies to promptly investigate the incident, apprehend those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice,” the statement said.
The group warned that continued attacks on pastoral communities could heighten tension and threaten peaceful coexistence in the area.
“The continued targeting of innocent pastoral communities poses a serious threat to peaceful coexistence and could worsen tensions among residents if urgent measures are not taken,” it added.
MACBAN also appealed to the Federal Government, Kogi State Government, and humanitarian organisations to provide relief materials and medical support to affected families.
The association, while mourning the victims, urged members of the pastoralist community to remain calm and law-abiding, allowing security agencies to carry out proper investigations.
