An unverified allegation circulating on social media claims that a female Warrant Officer, identified as Yusuf MO, died at the Nigerian Navy Sick Bay in Lagos on May 20, 2026, after allegedly being ordered by a superior officer to carry out strenuous outdoor tasks despite being unwell.
According to the post, Lt. Commander ST Abashim allegedly instructed the ailing officer to perform the physical work, after which she reportedly became dizzy, was admitted to a ward, and passed away approximately an hour later.
Photos of women in military uniform and of the facility were shared alongside the claims, helping the story gain significant traction online.
The allegations sparked considerable outrage on social media, with many commenters expressing anger over what they described as military cruelty and particular concern that the alleged mistreatment involved a senior female officer acting against a fellow woman in uniform.
However, the claims have been met with scepticism in some quarters.
Former servicemen have questioned the plausibility of the account, raising doubts about why a Warrant Officer a senior non-commissioned officer rank would be assigned such menial physical labour in the first place.
As of Tuesday, neither the Nigerian Navy nor any independent source has confirmed or responded to the allegations, leaving the claims entirely unverified.
The full circumstances surrounding the reported incident remain unclear.
