Nigerians raise alarm over FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s spokesperson allegedly having access to INEC’s admin page and violating data privacy law

Nigerians have raised concerns on social media after a post by Lere Olayinka appeared to show screenshots from what users claim is an administrative portal linked to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The controversy erupted after Olayinka, a spokesperson to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, shared screenshots while questioning the voter registration transfer of actor turned politician Emeka Ike.

In the post, Olayinka claimed that Ike was previously registered to vote in Imo State and only transferred his voter registration to the Federal Capital Terri tory on May 15, 2026.

The screenshots accompanying the post appeared to display information from what looked like an INEC administrative dashboard, including details of a voter transfer application and timestamps relating to the registration process. The images quickly sparked criticism online, with many Nigerians questioning how a political aide obtained access to what they believe is a restricted electoral database.

Critics argued that if the screenshots originated from an official INEC system, the incident could raise concerns about data privacy, voter information security and potential unauthorised access to electoral records. Some social media users called on INEC to explain whether the screenshots were authentic and clarify who is authorised to access such information.
