Rioters and police clashed on the streets of Paris on Saturday as thousands of fans gathered to watch the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. Violence flared just six minutes into the match after the Gunners scored the opening goal. PSG fans hurled chairs and lobbed bottles at police in response.

About 5,000 officers fired tear gas and joined baton charges to control the hostile crowds near the Rue de Rivoli and the Parc des Princes stadium. The chaos saw hundreds of nearby tourists caught in the crossfire near major landmarks, including the Louvre and Notre Dame.

Arsenal fell short in their bid to win the Champions League for the first time as they were beaten 4-3 on penalties by holders PSG in Budapest.
