Obi, Kwankwaso, Dickson arrive for NDC convention

A former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi; former Kano State Governor, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso; and the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Senator Seriake Dickson, have arrived at the party’s special convention in Abuja, where delegates are expected to formally adopt its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The convention, being held on Saturday at the party’s convention ground in the Idu area of the Federal Capital Territory, has attracted top political figures, party leaders and supporters from across the country.
Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate and one of the party’s most influential figures, arrived to a rousing welcome from supporters under the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
Dressed in a flowing white babanriga and his trademark red-and-white cap, the former Kano governor was cheered by loyalists as he made his way into the venue.
Obi, whose presence had generated considerable anticipation among party faithful, also arrived at the convention amid tight security and an enthusiastic reception from delegates.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate also donned his all-black kaftan with a cap to match.
Dickson was among the early arrivals as party stakeholders gathered ahead of the formal proceedings expected to culminate in the adoption of the party’s presidential standard-bearer for the 2027 election.
Also present at the event is the former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, alongside other senior party officials and chieftains.
The convention is expected to be a major milestone for the NDC as it continues efforts to consolidate opposition forces and position itself ahead of the next general election.
