Oden Ewa wins APC Cross River Central senatorial ticket, hails Otu, party members
By Jimoh Babatunde
Oden Ewa has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Cross River Central Senatorial District after securing victory in the partyâs primary election held on Sunday ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The results were announced by the Returning Officer, Barrister Eyo Nsa Ekpo, following the collation exercise conducted at the Ikom Local Government Area Council Hall.
Ewa polled 32,426 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Barrister Mary Ekpere, who secured 991 votes, while Eteng Jones garnered 726 votes.
Speaking after his victory, Ewa, the immediate past Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs under Governor Bassey Otuâs administration, expressed gratitude to party leaders, delegates, members and supporters for the overwhelming mandate.
He described the outcome as a reflection of years of dedication and contributions towards the development of the district and the state.
The former commissioner also commended Governor Bassey Otu for creating what he described as a level playing field and providing an atmosphere of peace, stability and progress in the state.
Ewa further thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve in his administration for nearly three years and for giving him the platform to contest the primary election as a first-time aspirant.
He praised the peaceful and orderly conduct of the primary process, describing it as a positive signal for democratic practice and an indication of what could be expected in the 2027 general elections.
While urging supporters not to take the victory for granted, Ewa stressed that the larger challenge of winning the general election still lies ahead.
He also extended an olive branch to his co-contestants, calling on them to unite and work together for the success of the party.
âMy victory is a victory for everyone, a collective victory and not an individual one,â he said.
He added that sustaining the partyâs dominance and securing victory in the general elections would require collective effort and unity among members.
Ewa pledged loyalty to the party and assured members and supporters that he would not betray the confidence reposed in him, while also calling for continued peace, unity and harmony within the APC and across the state.
