Ogun royal family seeks Lagos intervention over disputed land

The Isiki Royal Family of Osi Quarters, Ota, Ogun State, has petitioned the Lagos State government over what it described as alleged acts of trespass, forceful entry and land grabbing on a vast expanse of family land located along Old Ota Road in the Alagbado area of Lagos.

The family, led by High Chief B.A. Osunlabu (Head of the Family) and Chief Kamorudeen Olaonipekun (Baale of Ilapo, via AIT Road, Alagbado, Lagos), in a petition dated May 15, 2026, and addressed to the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, lamented that their land had been unlawfully invaded, with persons alleged to be armed threatening residents and occupants.

The petition, written by Shalinks Legal Practitioners on behalf of the family, described the development as capable of causing a breach of peace if urgent government intervention was not undertaken.

According to the solicitors, the land in dispute, known as the “Isiki/Ilapo Family Land,” is situated along Old Ota Road, Alagbado, within Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The family claimed that the land had belonged to their forefather, Isiki Odejo, for several generations under Yoruba native law and custom.

The petition stated that the family had exercised uninterrupted ownership and possession of the property for centuries before the recent alleged invasion.

The solicitors further alleged that some individuals allegedly entered the land with armed men, pasted “Public Notice” and “Keep Off” inscriptions across the area, and claimed that the land formed part of their property extending from “Papa Lanto” in Ogun State into Lagos.

According to the petitioners, the persons accused of invading the land threatened to evict occupants of the property, including schools, churches, mosques, shops and companies that had existed there for several years.

The family maintained that it had no prior knowledge of either those accused of the encroachment or any purported claim to the property.

Therefore, the petitioners urged the Lagos State Special Task Force on Land Grabbers to urgently investigate the matter and halt all activities allegedly being carried out on the land.

They also urged the authorities to prevent further entry onto the property, arrest and prosecute those allegedly involved under the Lagos State Properties Protection Law of 2016, and restore peaceful possession of the land to the family.

The solicitors warned that failure to swiftly address the matter could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the area, stressing that their clients were willing to cooperate fully with investigators by providing all necessary documents and information.
