Ojugbele clinches Ogun West APC senatorial ticket
By James Ogunnaike
A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary for Ogun West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ojugbele, who previously represented Ado-Odo/Ota-Igbesa Federal Constituency, secured the party’s ticket after polling 85,552 votes to defeat three other aspirants in the keenly contested primary.
The Presiding Officer for Ogun West, while announcing the result, said 86,811 accredited delegates participated in the exercise, noting that the process was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere across the senatorial district.
In his acceptance speech, Ojugbele commended party members for what he described as a smooth and credible exercise.
“First of all, we have to thank God for today’s election. It was free and fair in my ward and, from information gathered across other local governments and wards, the exercise was peaceful and seamless without any form of crisis,” he said.
The APC flag bearer said the peaceful conduct of the primary reflected the unity of party faithful in Ogun West, adding that it was a positive signal ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the absence of rancour during the exercise demonstrates the maturity of the democratic process within the district.
Ojugbele, who served three consecutive terms in the House of Representatives, also highlighted his legislative record, recalling his constituency projects in Ado-Odo/Ota, which earned him the nickname “Mr. Projects.”
While acknowledging the performance of the incumbent senator representing the district, Senator Adeola, he described him as “a grand master of projects,” noting that his tenure had significantly impacted development in the area.
“I want to assure the people of Ogun West that, with their continued support, I will improve upon the achievements of Senator Adeola and deliver even more dividends of democracy across the senatorial district,” Ojugbele stated.
Meanwhile, in Ogun Central Senatorial District, incumbent Senator Shuaib Salisu also secured the APC ticket after polling 85,000 votes.
In Ogun East, Governor Dapo Abiodun was declared winner of the APC senatorial primary for the district.
