Oyo APC knocks Makinde, demands resignation over insecurity comments

The Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Seyi Makinde over his recent comments on the security situation in the state, describing them as misleading and an attempt to evade responsibility.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Olawale Sadare, the party’s spokesman, the APC accused the governor of misrepresenting the constitutional powers of state governors in addressing insecurity.

The party said Makinde’s claim that he is constrained in tackling insecurity because security agencies are controlled by the Federal Government was unacceptable.

According to the APC, the governor’s remarks amounted to “a height of cluelessness, insincerity and criminal ineptitude,” insisting that he cannot shift blame for the worsening security situation in Oyo State.

The party further called on Makinde to resign from office, suggesting that his deputy should complete the remaining tenure if he is unable to manage the security challenges in the state.

“Parochial leaders like Makinde pose a grave danger to the growth and development of the Nigerian society, and it is important for the electorate to avoid them in future elections,” the statement said.

The APC’s reaction followed comments attributed to Makinde during his acceptance speech as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ibadan, where he reportedly lamented the limitations governors face in controlling security agencies and rescuing kidnapped victims.

The opposition party strongly rejected that position, insisting that state governors must take full responsibility for security outcomes within their jurisdictions.
