Oyo school attack: Ooni, Oluwo make case for security
By Shina Abubakar Osogbo
Following the attack on school in Oyo State, the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has called for swift security action to tackle the growing menace.
Also, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi tasked the Federal Government to empower traditional rulers to tackle the trending menace.
Ooni in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Moses Olafare, on Monday, described attack on schools as a direct assault on the future of the nation, stressing that children and teachers must never become victims of criminal activities.
“Security agencies to intensify rescue operations to ensure the safe return of all victims still in captivity while bringing the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
“I also urge Nigerians to support security agencies with credible information, vigilance and community cooperation, noting that the fight against kidnapping requires collective responsibility and national unity”, he said.
Meanwhile the Oluwo in a statement by his spokesperson, Alli Ibrahim, disclosed that the palace as a first point of contact during any breach, urged the government to strengthen monarchs for a swift response to any security breach in their respective community.
He adds, “The bandit attack in Ahoro-Esinele area of Oriire Local Government of Oyo State is condemnable. It’s a heinous act against humanity. It was a complete desecration of Yorubaland and its heritage.
“I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to add another credit to his achievements by ensuring traditional rulers are empowered to secure their respective domain through the provision of necessary support and logistics.
“The government, most especially our Governors, must brace up to curtail further encroachment and bandits attacks on Yorubaland. The government has to empower traditional rulers with security votes and other logistics support for traditional rulers because we are always the first point of contact.”
