Parents, social media is messing up your girls!

Dear Ma,

This is a message to thank you for impacting my life for many years! I began reading your Saturday PidomNigeria column over 10 years ago, and it helped me abstain from sexual immorality all through my university days, including law school and my service year. I am a proud virgin even at age 29.

Parents…parents…parents,

There is serious fire on the mountain, and I pray that fire doesn’t consume your children and the wonderful future you’re anticipating for them! THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS MATTER!

I kid you not, social media is going to turn a lot of glories to shame, destroy what many of you have painstakingly built and raised, and actually ruin so much of what God has planned to use to compensate you in future through your seeds, your children! Hmmmm…can you imagine some badly damaged people running your children’s lives for you, actually getting into their psyche and pushing them onto the road they never intended to ply?

A few weeks ago, I wrote on this, but it’s getting worse and more worrisome! TikTok, especially, is a place that easily assaults one’s decency, with people “catching cruise,” which means creating an entertaining situation or just goofing around! And I tell you, a lot of what one shouldn’t even be rumoured to be doing is now being aired and shamelessly displayed to the world, all for content creation.

You find boyfriends doing the unthinkable to their teenage girlfriends, and the girls are seen basking in the euphoria of the moment as though it’s the very best thing that could happen to them! Too many disturbing videos, and our girls are virtually sleeping on TikTok.

The other day, I stumbled on a video on Facebook where a young lady was telling the world how her mum wanted to kill her joy/spoil her fun by seizing her sex toys. I didn’t get the gist at first and had to watch it twice, perhaps because I was subconsciously not expecting that from a young Yoruba lady. (Laughs).

No tribalism intended, please! Why would any right-thinking lady want to make a show of that to the world? Do these girls even think or have a good sense of reasoning? Which decent man would want to marry such a lady who appears to lack good morals and discretion?

According to street slang, “God abeg ooo!” There are worse videos I’m certainly not seeing because I don’t like going on TikTok so as not to see what will disturb my senses.

It would surprise you that even a lot of mothers in recent times, women who appear distinguished because of their occupation or vocation and who should be role models to younger ladies, are now normalising the abnormal. Now, I don’t know if they just want to join the bandwagon of the so-called woke people or if they have been badly embittered and frustrated by men. Otherwise, why would they support a music star that was recently called out by a television personality for sleeping with his wife, and also hail the wife for taking that step in retaliation for her husband’s malice towards her and much more!

More disturbing was a video showing a good number of ladies jostling to take photos with the music star at an occasion that took place after he was called out. What in the world is going on?

Let me tell you this, while I pray that you can still bend your girls to the godly way: this isn’t a curse, but the girls/ladies will be at the receiving end as usual, as already some men are breaking their engagements with their fiancées because of their comments endorsing the adultery!

When I say today’s average youth appears to be plagued with mindlessness, I KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT! Do these girls/ladies especially think? Especially when we have long gotten to the stage as described in Isaiah 4:1, where you may have to beg for a good man to marry!

You even find some so-called feminists whose pages are dedicated to rubbishing men in every way possible and telling ladies they don’t need to get married. Haaa…can you imagine a low-life your child may never meet, one who can’t compete with your daughter in any way, distorting her judgment and pushing her into the abyss of life with evil counsel?

Hmmm….may we not be saddled with following our children around for therapy when we are meant to be enjoying the fruit of our labour over them in future!
