Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has donated ten million naira to the Practising Nursery and Primary School in Agulu, Anambra State, to support rebuilding efforts following a devastating fire that broke out in December 2024.
Obi had initially visited the school in November 2025, where headmistress Comrade Eucharia Egwuonwu briefed him on the extent of the damage, explaining that the fire had left pupils without adequate shelter and triggered a wave of withdrawals by concerned parents.
Moved by what he heard, he pledged to return with support.
The cheque presentation on Thursday was met with enthusiasm from students, with uniformed pupils seen applauding the gesture on video.
The donation reflects a pattern of personal involvement in grassroots education that Obi has demonstrated on previous occasions, including a similar ten million naira contribution to Western Academy in March 2026.
The gesture drew a mixed response, with many praising Obi for his hands-on approach and willingness to personally inspect the conditions of schools before offering support, while others argued that the amount donated falls short of what would be expected from someone of his public standing and profile.
