Former Senator Istifanus Dung Gyang has said members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Plateau North are awaiting justice from the party’s national leadership over the outcome of the recent senatorial primary election.

Mr Gyang also criticised the conduct of the primary, describing the process as fraudulent and inconsistent with democratic principles.

In a statement issued by the Director-General of the I.D. Gyang Campaign Council, Comrade Lot Adas, the former lawmaker alleged that no valid senatorial primary election was conducted in Plateau North, insisting that the results announced for the exercise did not reflect the will of party members.

According to the statement, the development has sparked concern among APC faithful and supporters of democratic processes across the senatorial district.

“The foundation of every credible democracy rests upon the sanctity of the people’s mandate, internal party democracy, fairness and due process,” the statement said.

Mr Gyang maintained that APC members in Plateau North were denied the opportunity to freely elect their preferred candidate through a transparent and credible process. He warned that the imposition of candidates could erode confidence in the party and alienate loyal members who have contributed significantly to its growth.

“It is public knowledge that the senatorial primary election was not conducted in Plateau North. Rather, results were concocted and allocated to suit a predetermined outcome,” the statement alleged.

The campaign council, however, expressed confidence in the intervention of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), noting that the party’s national chairman had indicated that reports submitted by the Appeal Committee on the National Assembly primaries were under review.

Mr Gyang urged his supporters and APC members in the district to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding while awaiting the outcome of the review process.

“Our position is rooted in the defence of justice, equity and the democratic rights of APC members and the people of Plateau North,” the statement added.
