The inaugural edition of “Anatomy of an Actor,” a groundbreaking multidisciplinary event dedicated to delving deep into the craft and evolving expectations of actors across both theatre and screen, was successfully held at the vibrant Alliance Française Lagos. This remarkable gathering drew an enthusiastic audience of approximately 100 actors and passionate industry aficionados, all eager to explore the intricacies of the acting profession.

The event kicked off with an engaging and interactive stage play, expertly led by the talented trio of Bolu Essien, Imoh Eboh, and Omololu Sodiya. The production poignantly examined the myriad experiences of actors, spanning the rigors of auditions to the demanding expectations that come with being cast, alongside the tantalizing prospect of fulfilling their dreams as performers. Written by Bolu Essien, the play was brought to life under the direction of the esteemed veteran theatre director, Makinde Adeniran, who also serves as the President of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP).

Convened by the dynamic Nigerian actor, writer, and producer Bolu Essien, “Anatomy of an Actor” attracted distinguished figures from the Nigerian creative industry, including celebrated actors, accomplished writers, visionary directors, and influential producers. Attendees were immersed in a series of thought-provoking panel discussions, lively performance sessions, and hands-on workshops that honed in on the art of acting.

The program was rich in variety, offering an audition lab where participants could sharpen their skills, improv workshops that encouraged spontaneity and creativity, and panel discussions that explored critical topics such as performance techniques, preparation, the essence of storytelling, professionalism, personal identity, and the pursuit of longevity within the acting profession. Bolu Essien, sharing the vision that anchored this initiative, articulated that “Anatomy of an Actor” was designed to create a more intentional space for actors to engage in learning, reflective practice, and artistic growth, extending far beyond the confines of auditions and production sets.

Notable contributions graced the event from esteemed theatre and screen professionals, including the illustrious actress and keynote speaker Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, alongside an impressive lineup of respected industry figures participating across various panels and sessions. This included talents such as Bimbo Akintola, Toyin Oshinaike, Brenda Fashugba, Judith Audu, Linda Ejiofor, Blessing Nze Obasi, Ifeanyi Barbara Chidi, Josh Olaoluwa, and Makinde Adeniran, among others.
