Tinubu accepts APC’s 2027 ticket, admits economic struggles
President Bola Tinubu has admitted that the economic reforms introduced by his administration have been difficult for Nigerians and himself personally, saying the policies have cost him sleep and weight over the past three years.
Tinubu made the remarks in Abuja shortly after emerging as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 election.
Speaking at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre after securing victory in the party’s presidential primary with 10,999,162 votes, Tinubu said he understands the hardship many citizens have endured since the introduction of wide-ranging fiscal and economic reforms.
He said, “I know what it takes to reform this nation we met in tatters. If you lost sleep, I’ve lost some too. If you’ve lost weight, I’ve lost some too.
“But I’ve always remembered one thing: in 2022, I asked for this job. You all supported me and I got it. So I must do it.”
Accepting the APC nomination, the President expressed gratitude to party members for giving him another opportunity to contest for office.
“I accept with profound humility and gratitude the nomination of our great party, the APC, to stand again as your presidential candidate in the 2027 election,” he said.
Tinubu also described the conduct of the primary election as peaceful and encouraging, revealing that he closely followed the process on television after casting his vote in Lagos on Saturday morning.
“I was glued to the television after voting. I saw the mammoth crowd in Kano and Kaduna, the city boy walking the streets of Calabar.
“It was a good feeling to see that there was no bloodshed, no rancour. This is politics in earnest. This is where we want Nigeria, facing one focus,” he added.
According to the results announced by the party, Tinubu defeated his only challenger, Stanley Osifo, in the direct primary conducted across the country’s 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards.
While Tinubu polled 10,999,162 votes, Osifo secured 16,503 votes.
