Tragedy as NYSC member stabs father to death over argument
A serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has reportedly stabbed his 53-year-old father, Adimike Godwin, to death in Abuja.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Friday night at the victimâs residence within an estate in the Guzape area of Abuja.
Available information indicated that the suspect returned from a nightclub and confronted his father.
A heated argument erupted over the mismanagement of business funds and complaints by the son that his father was being unfair with money.
The son allegedly compared his fatherâs wealth to his friendsâ fathers who bought cars for their children.
The dispute escalated, and the corps member allegedly stabbed his father three times in different parts of his body, leading to his death.
A source, who is an executive member of the Electrical Dealers Association of Nigeria (EDAN), confirmed the development.
The source described the deceased as a prominent electrical dealer and respected union member.
âWe received news that one of our members, one of the big boys in the market, was involved in a tragic incident. He is an importer, a major dealer, and also involved in real estate.
âHe travelled to Abuja to see his first son, who is serving there for his youth service and also manages some of his fatherâs real estate business.
âGodwin shuttles between Abuja and Lagos because of his business.
âWe were told that his son, who is also reportedly into drugs, went to a club and later returned to his Guzape home, one of the estates he manages for his father.
âApparently, a heated argument ensued after the son confronted his father about being unfair with money, citing how some of his friendsâ fathers, who are not as wealthy, buy cars for their children.
âFollowing the confrontation and an argument over mismanagement of business funds, the son allegedly stabbed his father three times in different parts of the body as seen in the body of the deceased.
âThe boy is currently in Police custody in Abuja, and the wife of the deceased has also been invited for questioning.
âAs a union, our immediate action was to secure all his shops and warehouses to prevent anyone, including apprentices, from carting away goods.
âThat is our normal procedure whenever such a tragedy happens to one of our members.
âWe both belong to the Electrical Dealers Association of Nigeria (EDAN), and we are trying to get to the root of the matter.
âSome people have already visited his house, and the situation is very tragic,â the source said.
When contacted, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident.
According to her, the tragic event came to light after concerned persons raised the alarm over their inability to reach or access the deceased.
She said: âThe FCT Police Command is investigating the death of Mr. Adimike Godwin of Guzape, which was discovered following a distress call.
âOn arrival, the police found the injured victim in a pool of his own blood. He was confirmed dead by doctors on duty at Karu General Hospital.
âThe police have taken five suspects, including a relative, into custody as part of a discreet investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD., FCAI.
âMembers of the public are urged to remain calm and report any relevant information to the command.â
