Trump hits out at 'rough regime' as Cuba plunges into blackout – 'country needs help'

Donald Trump said on Tuesday he is confident the US can reach a deal with Cuba, after the country’s national energy grid suffered a major failure last week. Stepping out in DC on May 19, the US President was asked if he was confident about striking a deal with the beleaguered country.

He said: “I think so. We are very prone towards the Cuban-Americans. They are incredible people. Many of them have lost family members, they have been badly hurt themselves, they have been in prison. They come to this country and they have been very successful.

“The Cuban-American community in Miami are amazing people.” He added: “I am very very prone to helping them. I think I have got 97% of their vote.”

Speaking about the deal, he reiterated: “It’s not going to be hard for us to solve.”

When asked whether he thinks he can achieve a deal without a regime change, Mr Trump replied: “I don’t know about changing the regime, I can do that, whether you change the regime or not. It’s been a rough regime, they have killed a lot of people. But it’s a country that really needs help.”
