Two suspected robbers in custody after Edo hotel raid

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of a 10-man armed robbery gang inside a hotel in Benin City following a robbery operation in the Ugbor area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Mustapha Haruna and Abdullahi Abdulrahman, were arrested on Thursday after residents reportedly alerted the police about the incident.

A resident of the area said the gang carted away several valuables, including assorted iPhones, Samsung phones, laptops, a JBL speaker, a power bank, and an undisclosed sum of cash during the operation.

“The robbers stole many valuable items, including phones and cash. However, they were later apprehended in a hotel, and I believe they will face the law,” the resident said.

The source added that many of the stolen items were recovered from the suspects during the arrest.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, said operatives attached to the Ugbor Police Station immediately launched a manhunt after the incident was reported and tracked the suspects to the hotel, where they were arrested.

She added that investigations were ongoing, while efforts had been intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.

“The robbery incident was reported, and two members of the gang were arrested by operatives of the Ugbor Police Station.

“Investigations are still ongoing, and efforts are being made to arrest other fleeing members of the gang,” the police spokesperson stated.
