Youths arrest suspect over killing of Imo nursing student

OWERRI — Youths in Umuadara, Umulogho community in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State have apprehended a suspect linked to the killing of Wendy Achumba, a student of the College of Nursing, Obowo.

A community source said the operation was led by the youth leader, Chidiebere Iweajunwa, following an investigation by local youths.

The suspect, identified as Onyema Okonkwo, was reportedly apprehended after a video interview allegedly containing a confession circulated online.

According to community sources, the suspect claimed he and another individual identified simply as Emmanuel visited the student’s residence on the evening of the incident.

The victim was said to have been living alone at the time, after two other occupants of the apartment temporarily left for their nursing practical programme.

“She was the only one in the house. Three students occupied the building, but the other two had travelled for their nursing experience,” the source said.

In the viral video, the suspect allegedly admitted that the victim was assaulted before she was later killed.

The suspect was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, Henry Okoye, had not responded to enquiries as of the time of filing this report.
