2027: Group seeks resolution of Adamawa APC senatorial contest

The Adamawa State Business Women Support Group for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election has appealed to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to intervene in issues arising from the All Progressives Congress senatorial candidature process in Adamawa Central Senatorial District.
Speaking at a press conference in Yola on Thursday, the leader of the group, Bilkisu Song, said members were concerned about developments surrounding the selection of the party’s senatorial candidate for the district.
According to her, the matter requires attention to ensure party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Ribadu, we are begging you as your mothers because we don’t want Mr. President to lose even one vote in the Adamawa Central Senatorial Zone. We appeal to you to look into the concerns being raised and help resolve them,” she said.
“We are mothers to Mustapha Salihu and all the other contestants, but we believe issues should be handled in a manner that promotes development and peace. As women, we suffer the most when there are political and physical crises in the country or anywhere in the world.”
Song said members of the group had supported Mustapha Salihu during his governorship campaign across the state’s 21 local government areas and were later informed of his emergence as the senatorial candidate for Adamawa Central.
She called on Ribadu, whom she described as a key APC leader in Adamawa State, to engage stakeholders on the matter and consider the aspirations of other contestants, including Alhaji Aliyu Abbati Abdul-Hameed.
She also noted that several local government areas in Adamawa Central had previously produced senators and expressed the group’s desire to see broader representation within the district.
“Yola South produced Senator Aishatu Binani, Song Local Government produced the late Senator Jibrin Aminu, Fufore Local Government produced Senator Bello Tukur, Girei Local Government produced Senator Abubakar Girei, while Hong Local Government produced Senator Aminu Abbas, who is the serving senator and is not contesting again,” she said.
Abbati is the immediate past Managing Director of NIRSAL Plc, a subsidiary of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He contested alongside six others, including Senator Abdurazak Nyako, who stepped down before the primary election.
Mustapha Salihu was a governorship aspirant who campaigned across the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State in pursuit of the APC governorship ticket.
