2027: Kwara ADC declares readiness, vows not to bow to intimidation

The Kwara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has declared its readiness for the 2027 general elections, insisting that no form of intimidation or adverse judicial action would prevent the party from participating in the polls.

The party’s stance was made known in a statement issued on Wednesday by its State Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Basambo, following its State Executive Committee meeting held at its secretariat in Ilorin, the state capital.

Speaking during the meeting, the State Chairman of the party, Babatunde Muhammed, expressed confidence in the ADC’s chances in the next election cycle, saying the party remained focused on securing victory at the polls.

He said, “The 2027 election is ours to win. No amount of intimidation and no level of judicial rascality can deter ADC from contesting and emerging victorious in flying colours.”

The party’s position comes amid legal disputes surrounding the status of some political parties following a Federal High Court judgment ordering the deregistration of the party and four other political parties.

Muhammed, however, commended the Court of Appeal for intervening in the matter, saying the appellate court’s decision had reinforced confidence in the democratic process.

According to him, the Appeal Court condemned the lower court’s judgment, described the trial judge, Justice Peter Lifu, as ‘unfit to be a judge’ and granted a stay of execution on the deregistration order affecting the ADC and other political parties.

The Kwara ADC called for greater unity among members and urged party faithful across the state to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.

“Unity is the greatest need of this hour. This judgment has proven that the will of the people cannot be deregistered by any court,” it said.

It urged the party’s candidates and supporters to begin active engagement with voters across the state.

“To all ADC candidates across Kwara: the time to work is now. There is no more time to waste. Let us take our message of rescue and rebuilding to every ward, every unit, every home.”

The party added that it remained committed to issue-based politics, credible elections and what he described as the restoration of political power to the people.

It also thanked party members for their patience and resilience throughout the legal uncertainty, assuring residents of the state that the ADC was prepared to provide leadership if given the mandate in 2027.
