As Nollywood star Alexx Ekubo’s remains arrived for burial on Thursday, the ancient town of Arochukwu, Abia State, was overcome with grief and tears.
After a protracted fight with kidney cancer, the 40-year-old actor passed away on May 11.
His remains was transported home in a motorcade, stopping briefly at the Eze Arochukwu palace before moving on to his family property.
The monarch was seen praying over the actor’s casket with one of his chiefs in a widely shared video.
When Ekubo’s sister saw the coffin, her emotions ran strong. She had to be held after breaking down in tears and attempting to get into the ambulance that was transporting her brother’s corpse.
Crowds of bystanders and sympathizers swarmed the streets to pay their final respects after seeing the terrible scenario.
To honor him, a number of his coworkers also showed up in Arochukwu.
Omoni Oboli, Yomi Casual, Kevin Ikeduba, Ini Edo, and IK Ogbonna participated in a somber march through the village.
In remembrance, they carried his pictures and wore T-shirts with the late actor’s visage emblazoned on them.
Even now, Ekubo is still buried in his hometown.
Late Alexx Ekubo’s remains made a brief stop at the palace of the Eze of Arochukwu, where prayers were offered for the peaceful repose of his soul ahead of his funeral. https://t.co/0iyUKU2K4s pic.twitter.com/N5m83jY2TE
