Agege council boss urges residents to embrace sanitation

The Chairman of Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, has urged residents to embrace collective action during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

The chairman of the LGA made the appeal during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Agege on Saturday.

The initiative, themed: “Agege Clean-Up Day,” focused on promoting healthier surroundings and instilling civic responsibility among residents across the local government area.

Obasa said: “Today, we observe the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, an opportunity for every resident to contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and better-managed Agege.

“By dedicating these few hours to cleaning our neighbourhoods, we send a powerful message that Agege is a community that values discipline and order.”

He urged residents to clear blocked drainages, ensure proper waste disposal, and maintain free-flowing gutters to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

Obasa highlighted that a clean environment was the first line of defence against diseases and ecological hazards threatening the community’s wellbeing.

He explained that beyond sanitation, the exercise was designed to build environmental consciousness and strengthen communal responsibility among citizens.

The chairman called on youths, market leaders, and households to sustain the practice daily, not only during the monthly exercise.

“Our Agege, our responsibility; a greener, healthier, and greater Agege begins with the effort of every resident,” he added.
