Osun killing: APC faults Adeleke’s allegation against lawmaker

The All Progressives Congress in Ward 7, Esa-Oke, Osun State, has faulted Governor Ademola Adeleke for accusing the Director-General of the Osun APC Campaign Council, Wole Oke, of sponsoring the killing of an Accord Party member, Ajayi Aderogba.

The party urged Adeleke, the Accord Party and other political actors to refrain from making allegations capable of politicising the incident, insisting that only a thorough police investigation could establish those responsible for the killing.

Addressing journalists in Esa-Oke on Friday, the Chairman of APC Ward 7 Stakeholders, Prof Siji Olamiju, called on security agencies to conduct a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the incident.

Rogba was reportedly shot dead by gunmen in Esa-Oke on Tuesday, an incident that has triggered political controversy in the state.

Following the killing, Adeleke, during a condolence visit to the deceased’s family, accused Oke of sponsoring the attack.

Also, the spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, accused Oke of masterminding the attack.

However, Oke, through a statement signed by his Senior Media Aide, Tunde Omolebi-Sunday, denied the allegation and described attempts to link him and the APC to the killing as misleading.

Speaking on Friday, Olamiju said the death of Rogba should not be exploited for political gain.

“We are particularly concerned that certain individuals have hastily linked this unfortunate incident to politics without allowing the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to conclude their investigations.

“Justice can only be achieved through a thorough, impartial and professional investigation, not through speculation, political rhetoric or media trials,” he said.

He maintained that neither the APC Ward 7 nor Oke had any connection with the circumstances surrounding the killing.

“It is equally important to emphasise that the APC Ward 7 and the Director-General of the Osun APC Campaign Council, Hon. Wole Oke, have absolutely no connection whatsoever with the circumstances surrounding the death of Ajayi Rogba.

“Attempts to implicate the party or Hon. Wole Oke are entirely baseless, politically motivated and unsupported by any credible evidence,” Olamiju added.

The APC stakeholders’ chairman urged Governor Adeleke and other public office holders to allow security agencies to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without interference or premature conclusions.

He also appealed to the police and other security agencies to investigate every credible lead and invite all persons whose testimonies could assist in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We therefore appeal to all residents of Esa-Oke and the general public to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information and cooperate fully with security agencies as they carry out their investigations,” he said.
