APC candidate wins Kebbi by-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress , Rabiu Garba Aiki, winner of the Zuru State Constituency by-election for the Kebbi State House of Assembly.

The result was announced on Saturday at the collation centre by the Returning Officer and Collation Officer, Prof. Muhammad Basharof the Federal University Birnin Kebbi.

According to the official results, Rabiu Garba Aiki secured 4,887 votes to defeat his closest rival, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party, who polled 168 votes.

Prof. Danladi stated that the constituency had 109,385 registered voters, while 5,156 voters were accredited for the election. He added that 5,055 valid votes were cast, while 95 votes were rejected.

The ward-by-ward results showed the APC maintained a commanding lead across all 10 wards in the constituency.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy created by the death of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru.

Despite the peaceful conduct of the exercise, voter turnout remained low across most polling units, with accredited voters representing only a small fraction of the total registered voters in the constituency.

With the declaration, the APC has retained the Zuru State Constituency seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
