APC Reps aspirant demands review of Doma/Awe/Keana primary, alleges irregularities

An aspirant for the House of Representatives ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Doma/Awe/Keana Federal Constituency, Mahasin Usman Attah, has called for a comprehensive review of the party’s primary election, alleging serious irregularities in the conduct of the exercise.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Ms Attah expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the primary election that produced Yakubu Dalhatu Araf as the APC candidate for the constituency.

According to the aspirant, concerns over the credibility of the process stem from what she described as significant irregularities that culminated in the declaration of Araf as the party’s flagbearer by the Chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, Shu’abu Musa Gori.

Ms Attah maintained that although her co-aspirant participated in the process in good faith, the conduct of the election failed to reflect the genuine wishes and aspirations of party members across the constituency.

“The strength of any democratic institution lies in its commitment to fairness, transparency, justice and respect for the will of its members,” she stated.

She further noted that several stakeholders, delegates and party loyalists from Doma, Awe and Keana local government areas had raised concerns about the manner in which the primary election was conducted.

“The primary election, as conducted, did not adequately reflect the true will and collective aspirations of APC members within the constituency,” Ms Attah said.

The aspirant appealed to the APC Primary Election Committee, led by Shu’abu Musa Gori, as well as the party’s leadership at both the state and national levels, to undertake what she described as a thorough and impartial review of the exercise.

“This appeal is not motivated by personal interest alone. Rather, it is driven by a sincere desire to protect the integrity of our party and preserve the confidence of members,” she added.

Ms Attah warned that unresolved grievances arising from party primaries could fuel internal divisions and undermine the APC’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.

She, however, reaffirmed her loyalty to the ruling party, stressing that her intervention was intended to strengthen internal democracy and promote fairness within the APC.

“Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to have been done,” Ms Attah stated.
