Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has urged the club to make a move for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, describing him as the ideal signing to strengthen Chelsea’s attacking options under manager Xabi Alonso.
Alvarez has been attracting interest from several top clubs this summer, including Arsenal and Barcelona, though Atletico Madrid are reportedly reluctant to sell him to Barcelona specifically, while remaining open to other offers.
Johnson told Football London that securing a prolific striker should be Chelsea’s top priority in the transfer window, arguing that no club can genuinely compete at the top of the Premier League without a consistent goalscorer capable of hitting 20 goals a season a profile he believes Chelsea currently lacks.
He identified Alvarez as the perfect fit, noting that the Argentine appears likely to leave Atletico this summer and would be exactly the kind of player Chelsea should be moving quickly to secure.
