Hauwa’u Mukhtar was found guilty of conspiring to conduct terrorism and assisting terrorist acts, and a Federal High Court in Katsina State condemned her to death by hanging.
On September 16, 2023, Mukhtar was apprehended by Department of State Services (DSS) agents at Jibia Motor Park in Katsina while attempting to deliver 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition to Ado, a suspected bandit kingpin who operates in the Dunburum Forest of Zamfara State.
She was then charged by the DSS in Katsina’s High Court No. 3. The prosecution used exhibits, witnesses, and evidence to connect the defendant to the crime throughout the trial.
Judge A. B. Bawale found Mukhtar guilty on both counts of the accusation, ruling that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
In accordance with the Katsina State Penal Code Law, 2021, the court consequently sentenced her to death by h@nging.
This conviction represents the DSS’s second d+ath sentencing this month. Four individuals were sentenced to death earlier in June by a Federal High Court in Abuja for their involvement in the terrorist attack on the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, on June 5, 2022, which resulted in the deaths of over forty people.
