Deportation Shock Looms as US Flags Over 100 Nigerians in Major Immigration Sweep

A sweeping enforcement operation by the United States Department of Homeland Security has triggered alarm after hundreds of West Africans were placed on a deportation watchlist, with Nigerians making up the largest single group.

The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that at least 110 Nigerians are among 355 West Africans earmarked for deportation as part of a broad immigration enforcement operation.

The DHS published the names and photographs of all individuals listed under its West Africa Operations Watch initiative, with Nigeria accounting for the largest single-country group at 110, followed by Liberia with 94, Ghana with 30, and Senegal with 19.

Other nationalities on the list include Cameroonians, Gambians, Ivorians, Mauritanians, Cape Verdeans, Burkinabes, Nigeriens, Guineans, Togolese, and Malians, among others.

According to the department, those flagged were found to have committed various immigration violations, including overstaying visas, entering the country unlawfully, and failing to meet residency requirements.

Officials described the exercise as a coordinated crackdown carried out across multiple US states.
