Dismissed ASP Nuhu Usman, others arraigned, remanded in Delta prison over killing of Mene Ogidi

Nuhu Usman, a dismissed assistant superintendent of police (ASP) and members of his team have been remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre in Delta State over the public killing of a suspect, Mene Ogidi.
The officers were remanded on Monday, June 1, following their arraignment in connection with the extrajudicial killing of Ogidi in Effurun, an incident that sparked nationwide outrage.
Full details of the charges against Usman and the other officers are yet to be confirmed.
Ogidi was allegedly shot dead by ASP Usman, who was attached to the Effurun Area Command, despite being handcuffed and pleading for his life in a viral video that circulated widely across the country.
The deceased had reportedly been apprehended while attempting to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition before the incident occurred.
According to reports, operatives attached to the Effurun Area Command had received credible intelligence from members of the public about the suspect and were deployed to the scene to effect his arrest.
However, ASP Usman, who led the team, allegedly acted in violation of established police procedures.
Before he was killed, Ogidi was seen in a viral video crying and offering to lead officers to a location in Sapele. He was allegedly silenced because he knew too much about Usman’s past operations in the Jesse and Sapele axis.
