A Ghanaian woman based in Germany has sparked widespread debate on social media after publicly advising women living abroad to avoid entering romantic relationships with men who do not possess legal residency documentation, alleging that such individuals typically pursue relationships with hidden agendas.
In a video that has since circulated widely online, the woman stated that her position is rooted in personal conviction and lived experience within the diaspora community.
“In my opinion, you shouldn’t date a man with no legal residency papers in Germany because everybody is moving with an agenda,” she said, adding that she is only willing to maintain platonic friendships with undocumented men and would not consider anything beyond that.
The woman’s comments have ignited fierce debate among Ghanaians both in the diaspora and at home, with opinions sharply divided.
Supporters of her position argue that her advice is pragmatic and protective, particularly for women who may be vulnerable to exploitation by individuals seeking residency through romantic partnerships.
