Edo Speaker Debunks Report of School Attack in Owan West

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has dismissed social media reports alleging attacks on schools by bandits in Owan West Local Government Area of the state, describing the claims as false, malicious and unfounded.
Agbebaku made the clarification while addressing journalists on the matter, assuring residents that Owan West remains safe, peaceful and secure.
According to him, the rumour was “absurd and dangerous,” adding that the author of the false report is already being questioned by security agents.
The Speaker stressed that the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo does not treat security matters lightly, noting that the government has continued to take proactive steps to protect lives and property across Edo State.
He also said the House of Assembly, under his leadership, gives urgent attention to security-related issues in order to support the state government’s efforts in maintaining peace and order.
Agbebaku disclosed that the Okpebholo-led administration has procured 100 Hilux vehicles, hundreds of motorcycles, six armoured vehicles and five drones to strengthen security operations and combat crime across the state.
He reiterated the government’s preparedness to stamp out criminal elements, warning those with criminal intentions to either leave the state or face the full weight of the law.
Speaking on the fight against cultism, the Speaker said the government’s efforts were already yielding positive results, adding that security agencies had been adequately mobilised to deal with all forms of criminality.
He advised members of the public to disregard unverified reports capable of causing panic, while urging residents to continue to support government and security agencies with credible information.
The clarification comes amid recent unverified reports of alleged attacks on schools in parts of the country.
