EDSG orders reopening of schools closed over security concerns

The Edo State Government has approved the reopening of all schools that were temporarily shut down due to security concerns, following a comprehensive review of the security situation across the affected communities.

In a circular issued by the Ministry of Education, the government said the decision was reached after consultations with relevant security agencies and other critical stakeholders, as well as the implementation of enhanced security measures to safeguard schools.

According to the circular signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Enodolomwanyi Otamere, additional safety mechanisms have been deployed in the affected communities and schools to ensure the protection of learners, teachers, and other school personnel.

The government stated that it is satisfied with the security arrangements put in place and has therefore directed all affected public and private schools to resume normal academic and administrative activities from Monday, June 15, 2026.

School heads, proprietors, and relevant education authorities have been instructed to make the necessary preparations for the safe return of students and staff. They were also advised to maintain close collaboration with security agencies, community leaders, and government officials to sustain a secure and conducive learning environment.

The state government reassured parents, guardians, and education stakeholders that adequate security measures have been deployed across schools and pledged to continue monitoring the situation closely to protect lives, property, and the education sector.

Parents and guardians were encouraged to ensure that their children and wards return to school promptly to continue their academic activities.
