Fela Durotoye to Fathers: Align your vision with your partners

Business Consultant and Leadership Expert, Fela Durotoye, has charged couples to align their visions and dreams with those of their partners to build impactful lives and successful homes.

Durotoye, also a politician and motivational speaker, gave the charge at the seventh edition of the SheCan Conference in Lagos.

Speaking on marriage and leadership, he noted that life would become easier when a husband aligned with his wife’s goals and dreams.

He added that a person truly becomes impactful once they determine their purpose.

He said: “We have three categories of men: the hunter, the scavenger, and the gardener.

“A gardener understands his purpose, takes care of his wife like a garden, and helps her become successful.” 

Durotoye emphasised that a man’s success could be measured by his wife’s success because he gave her the wings to fly.

According to him, a wife can comfortably be a mother at home while simultaneously thriving as a leader in her career.

Furthermore, he noted that a girl child has a greater tendency to succeed when she sees her mother succeeding.

He said: “The best gift to my future daughters-in-law is to raise my sons well.

“My sons will be able to carry my purpose, not because I told them, but because they have seen how purposeful I am in life.”

The leadership expert, however, pointed out that for a man to effectively support his wife’s dreams, the woman must communicate clearly, define her aspirations, and show genuine passion for them.

He concluded by noting that structural misalignment often destroyed relationships, stating: “Every marriage conflict is a result of a conflict in values.”
