FUOYE suspends two students over leaked video of ex-SUG president

The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two students accused of allegedly circulating and promoting a private video involving James Iyanuoluwa Adio, the institution’s former Students’ Union Government (SUG) president.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a statement issued by Prof. Tajudeen Opoola, the university’s acting vice-chancellor through the office of the deputy vice-chancellor (Administration).
According to the institution, the affected students are being investigated for their alleged involvement in cyberbullying and the online dissemination of private content linked to the suspended student leader.
The university said preliminary findings suggest the duo may have acted in a manner capable of damaging the reputation of both the individual involved and the institution.
FUOYE stated that while investigations are ongoing, the decision to suspend the students was taken to preserve order and uphold the university’s standards of conduct.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring that actions capable of tarnishing its image are not tolerated.
The development comes days after Adio was suspended alongside a senior official in the Students’ Affairs Division over allegations relating to the collection of unauthorised levies from first-year students.
Following his suspension, a private video allegedly involving the former SUG president surfaced online and quickly gained attention on social media, prompting reactions from student bodies and stakeholders.
University authorities said the ongoing investigation would determine the extent of the students’ involvement and guide any further disciplinary action.
