Final-Year Female Student Found Dead Along Lokoja-Abuja Highway

The Kogi State Police Command has identified a female student whose body was found along the Lokoja-Abuja Highway as a final-year student of the Federal University Lokoja.

The deceased, named as Sarah Idoko, was discovered dead on Saturday night near the Crusher area along the Felele axis of Lokoja, after she was allegedly dumped at the location by unidentified assailants.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a vehicle stop briefly near the spot at around 8 p.m. before driving away at speed. Passers-by subsequently stumbled upon the body by the roadside and notified security authorities.

Initial reports had suggested that the deceased was a student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, following the recovery of an identity card bearing her name at the scene.

The card indicated she was enrolled in the Higher National Diploma programme of the Department of Office Technology Management for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The police, however, later clarified that Sarah was in fact a student of the Federal University Lokoja.

The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Kankarofi, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding her death and to identify and apprehend those responsible.

He assured the public that the findings of the investigation would be made known at the appropriate time, and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to delivering justice for the deceased.

The Association of Nigeria Female Students, Kogi State Chapter, responded to the development with a strong condemnation of the killing, describing it as cruel, deeply unfortunate, and completely unacceptable.

In a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Celina James, the association expressed profound grief over Sarah’s death and called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.

The group also urged relevant authorities to bolster security around university campuses and student communities to prevent similar tragedies from occurring.

The association noted that Sarah’s death has once again drawn attention to the persistent safety concerns along the Felele corridor a key gateway into Lokoja that has been the scene of several security-related incidents in recent years.
