Four Bauchi reps dump PDP for APM

The house of representatives on Thursday witnessed fresh political realignments as four lawmakers from Bauchi state officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Tajudeen Abbas, the speaker of the house announced the defections during plenary after reading the lawmakers’ letters notifying the chamber of their decision.

The lawmakers who left the PDP are Muhammed Shehu, representing Zaki Federal Constituency; Aliyu Garu, representing Bauchi federal constituency; Sani Tanko, representing Shira/Giade federal constituency; and Mansur Soro, representing Darazo/Ganjuwa federal constituency.

In a separate development, Jeremiah Umaru of Nasarawa State also announced his departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The latest defections add to the growing wave of political movements in the National Assembly as politicians reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Only days earlier, eight lawmakers reportedly left the PDP for the APM, while several others switched allegiance between the APC, PDP, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC).
