Gina Onuoha Raises Alarm Over Rising Domestic Violence and Child Abuse in South East

Veteran Nollywood actress Gina Onuoha has raised the alarm over what she described as a growing culture of domestic vi0lence and child ab¥se in Igbo communities, calling on leaders across the South-East to take urgent action.

In a lengthy video message shared online, Onuoha said she had spent several days watching disturbing videos and images showing cases of Igbo men ass@ulting women and Igbo women mistreating children placed in their care as domestic helpers.

“There is a problem in Igboland,” the actress declared, lamenting what she described as the increasing normalisation of ab¥sive and t0xic behaviour within the community.

She took aim at men who deploy their role as financial providers to justify ab¥sive conduct, insisting that wealth does not confer respect or authority, and that true manhood is defined by character, integrity and responsibility.

She equally condemned women who channel frustrations from their marriages or personal circumstances onto vulnerable children in their care, describing such conduct as wicked and unacceptable.

Onuoha further called for stricter measures against the practice of sending underage children to live with relatives or strangers as house helps, warning of the dangers such arrangements pose to minors.

She urged governors, traditional rulers, churches and community leaders across the South-East to begin confronting the issue through town hall meetings, sermons and public discussions, stressing that sustained vi0lence against women and the ab¥se of children could have grave long-term consequences for the Igbo people.

While acknowledging that many Igbo men and women are decent and responsible, the actress maintained that the rising number of ab¥se cases demands attention rather than silence, warning that unless difficult conversations are held and meaningful changes are made, the situation risks worsening.
